British candy wholesaler Candy Hero opens branch in Gelderland

Candy Hero, a British candy distributor, opens a distribution center in Nijmegen on December 1. The company opens the branch partly in view of Brexit - half of Candy Hero's customers are located in the EU. In order to continue serving these customers in the same fashion, the company opens a distribution center in the Netherlands.

Candy Hero Ltd was established in West Yorkshire in December 2008 with the mission to sell imported caffeinated peppermints and chewing gum. 11 years later, Candy Hero has become a major food distributor with extensive software and food logistics knowledge, a powerful pre-order and booking system, and an assortment of 20,000+ products. Candy Hero is a wholesaler mainly involved in the sale of foreign sweets; mainly from the United Kingdom, the United States and Asia. The company will use the location in Nijmegen for the storage and transshipment of the different sorts of candy.

Candy Hero's warehouse in the UK was considered too small, making the company look for expansion, the entrepreneur states in an article by business bank HSBC. Due to the Brexit developments the company chose to expand on the European mainland. The choice for the Netherlands can be explained by logistical advantages, the knowledge of the English language and the proximity to Germany, one of Candy Hero's most important customers. For the first two years, Candy Hero expects to use the location in Nijmegen, after which they will move into a new distribution center in Wijchen. A team of about 15 people will eventually operate from this new location.
