Ag Leader, a software developer for optimizing agricultural processes, has made a strategic decision to place its European headquarters in the East of the Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. From its location in the city of Malden, Ag Leader will give administrative and technical support, and training to its European dealer network. In addition, plans are being made to provide its dealers with reserve parts and supplies from this location.
Ag Leader has a total of 300 employees, a relatively small company, and is based in Ames, Iowa (US). Malden will be the first location for the company outside of the US. Their decision to base in the Netherlands was based on the availability of well-educated employees and the Dutch way of doing business. A Dutch manager will be hired to manage the international sales & support team, which will be active throughout Europe, Middle-East and Africa. They expect to grow to 10 employees in Malden within the next 3 years.
Choice for the Netherlands
In 2012 Ag Leader was searching for an appropriate location for a European office, and were assisted by Oost NL and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). At first, the request from Ag Leader was for information regarding financial and legal affairs, establishing a corporation and hiring personnel. In later phases the company got assistance in looking for business partners and a specific location.
