Samyang establishes R&D Innovation Hub in Wageningen
Samyang Foods has established a new European R&D Innovation Hub in Wageningen, the Netherlands, strengthening its innovation footprint in Europe. The South Korean food company selected the Wageningen region for its globally recognized agri-food ecosystem and strong collaboration opportunities with research institutions and industry partners. Oost NL and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) supported Samyang in establishing its presence and facilitating a soft landing in the regional ecosystem.

The new R&D center serves as Samyang’s European base for research and development. From Wageningen, the company will work closely with leading knowledge institutions and innovative food companies to develop new food solutions tailored to the European market.
The research activities focus on plant-based ingredients, functional foods and advanced food technologies. With this investment, Samyang aims to contribute to healthier and more sustainable food systems while strengthening its position in Europe.
Strategic choice for Wageningen
Samyang selected the Wageningen region due to its international reputation as a leading hub for food and agricultural innovation. The region offers access to a dense network of researchers, startups, corporates and technology partners, as well as close proximity to Wageningen University & Research.
The R&D center builds on Samyang’s earlier presence in the Netherlands, including its European entity in Amsterdam, and marks a next step in expanding its activities on the continent.
Collaboration in the regional ecosystem
Oost NL supported Samyang throughout the location selection process and connected the company to key partners in the regional ecosystem, in close collaboration with the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency in South Korea and regional partners.
Jurgen Sonneborn, Senior Advisor Food & Health at Oost NL, said: “If we want to produce durable and sustainable food for people and the planet, it is necessary to reshape our current food system. Oost NL supports entrepreneurs working on high-quality, healthy and sustainable food with the latest technologies. We are glad that a company such as Samyang has chosen Wageningen, adding value to the existing ecosystem of innovative food companies.”
