FOOD2020 prepares the food sector in the Dutch-German border region for the future. The INTERREG V project FOOD2020 Phase II has a budget of EUR 4.4 million for innovation projects, events and think tanks to strengthen the Dutch-German border region in the food sector. Here, small and medium-sized companies in particular are supported in the development of new products, processes or services that contribute to meeting (social) challenges in the food sector.
The 19 innovation projects funded within the project have been awarded and approved. The first innovation project, eAlgae.2, from Elea GmbH in collaboration with the Dutch Algae Holland B.V. was already successfully completed at the end of September 2019. In this project, important results were achieved in the treatment of algae with pulsed electric fields (PEF). Most other projects will be completed this year and show promising interim results. More information about the individual innovation projects can be found at https://www.food2020.eu/innovationsprojekte_alt/innovationsprojekte/?lang=nl.
Another measure within FOOD2020 Phase II are Think tanks. Representatives of companies and external experts from research & development work in groups in these Think Tanks during different sessions. Within FOOD2020 Phase II, the Think Tanks Reduction of Sugar, Salt and Fat, Innovation Management, Vegetable Protein Sources, Recycle Management, Food Value and Digital Challenges of the Food Industry are carried out.
FOOD2020 also supports free workshops for participants, which are announced on the FOOD2020 website: https://www.food2020.eu/news-events/?lang=en.
FOOD2020 Phase II is being carried out under the INTERREG program Germany-Netherlands and is co-financed by the European Union, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the provinces of Drenthe, Fryslân, Gelderland, Groningen, Limburg, Noord-Brabant and Overijssel, the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Innovation, Digitalisierung und Energie of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ministerium für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten und Regionale Entwicklung of Lower Saxony. FOOD2020 is supervised by the program management at the Ems Dollard Region.
